JOAN'S JOURNEY WITH JABALI
From Primary to University
Joan was first introduced to Jabali when she was in primary school. She is now in her final year of university studying Medical Engineering. In 2024, a mentoring session with Henry lit a spark that set Joan on an inspiring path. Following Henry’s advice after her first year of university, Joan looked for a job that fit around her studies and opened her first bank account. She has now worked for the same medical equipment company for nearly two years.
When her savings reached UGX 700,000, she used the funds to set up a retail shop, which she has since expanded into a larger location now run by her mother.

Henry discoverd his talents
“One of the greatest things Jabali did was help me discover talents I never knew I possessed. Before receiving support, I had little opportunity to explore my abilities because my focus was simply on helping my family survive. Jabali gave me the space to grow, learn, and discover who I could become. I remember travelling to Mbale on a trip organized by UCTF (Jabali Uganda now) with other sponsored students. It was there that I first picked up a tennis racket and discovered my love for tennis, alongside. Later, with the guidance of Coach Raga at Lugogo, I developed my tennis skills significantly.”
Besides sports, Henry is actively involved in leadership and currently serve as the President of the Symbiosis International Student Council for a second consecutive term (2025/26 and 2026/27), representing international students across Pune from different universities.

Siima
Siima grew up in a household where she witnessed firsthand the effects of gender discrimination and social stigma. When her mother was abandoned by her father for not giving birth to a son, she struggled to provide for her and her sister. Her mother's dedication and hard work in the face of adversity have been an inspiration for Siima. Jabali’s support has made Siima hopeful for the future.
Anne
Anne grew up in a town called Nansana, she struggled to attend school as she was constantly sent home due to defaulting on school fees. Her mother, who worked as a cleaner at a school, tirelessly looked for opportunities to be able to take her daughter through school. With assistance from Jabali, Anne has attended a boarding school education without the constant worry of being sent home.
Joe
18-year-old Joe is an enthusiastic cricket player who dreams of becoming a dentist. Jabali's support has allowed him to stay in school, he is currently studying A-levels in biology, chemistry and math. Joe is eager to continue his education at university. With the continued tuition support from Jabali, and mentorship provided by Henry, he is optimistic about achieving his dream of becoming a dentist.
Rose
At 14 years old, Rose reflects on her life in an orphanage. Despite the restrictions and limitations, Rose is glad she still had the opportunity to receive an education. Rose dreams of a better future and has been supported by Jabali Uganda since 2023.
Shifrah
15-year-old Shifrah lives with her mother in Kisasi. Shifrah remembers watching her mother tense up whenever the school called her about overdue tuition fee payments. This experience left Shifrah so concerned about the financial burden of education on her family.
Shallom
Having grown up in a poor community, the struggle for basic needs was a constant reality for Shallom and her family. Due to her family’s inability to pay tuition fees, Shallom was in and out of school for years. Jabali has helped Shallom stay in school and provided for her basic needs.
